Section 110 of the Employee Retirement
Income Security Act (ERISA) authorizes the Secretary of Labor to
prescribe alternative methods of compliance with the reporting and
disclosure requirements of Title I of ERISA for pension plans. The
Department's regulations at 29 C.F.R. § 2520.104-49 provide an
alternative method of disclosure for sponsors of certain types of
Simplified Employee Pensions that is easier to comply with than
otherwise required under ERISA.

Adjustments to the hour and
cost burdens in the ICR result from updating the number of defined
benefit plans and the estimates of numbers of participants who work
past normal retirement age or return to work after retirement, and
updating of materials and postal rates.
