The E-Government Act of 2002 defines these terms by reference to the definition sections of Titles 40 and
44 of the United States Code. The following is a summary of those definitions:
•“Information Technology” means any equipment or interconnected system or subsystem of
equipment, used in the automatic acquisition, storage, manipulation, management, movement,
control, display, switching, interchange, transmission, or reception of data or information. See 40
U.S.C. § 11101(6).
•“Information System” means a discrete set of information resources organized for the collection,
processing, maintenance, use, sharing, dissemination, or disposition of information. See: 44. U.S.C. §
3502(8).
Note: for purposes of this form, there is no distinction made between national security systems or
technologies/systems managed by contractors. All technologies/systems should be initially reviewed for
potential privacy impact.

DHS/IP would like to conduct a feedback assessment with the full range of its stakeholders to identify, measure,
and improve the effectiveness of its efforts. DHS/IP desires to collect information from its stakeholders in order

Provide a baseline for the effectiveness of efforts to improve the security of the nation’s infrastructure;
Assist in validating and achieving DHS/IP’s strategic and mission area objectives;
Obtain a better understanding of the evolving infrastructure protection and resilience requirements of
DHS/IP stakeholders;
Increase the visibility and awareness of the critical infrastructure protection and resilience mission;
Initiate the coordination and uniformity of outreach efforts by DHS/IP, sector-specific agencies, and other
partners engaged in the infrastructure protection mission; and
Collect feedback regarding event, threat or service-specific activities in a timely fashion.

number, or to register when completing the electronic survey. The only information respondents will
provide is whether they belong to the private or public sector and which of the 18 sectors defined in the
2009 National Infrastructure Protection Plan (NIPP) they represent. There is also an optional question to
identify the State where they are located.
