The U.S. Census Bureau is conducting a very important national survey called the Puerto Rico Community
Survey (PRCS). The PRCS is separate from the 2010 Census. This year, some facilities will be contacted by
representatives from both the PRCS and from the 2010 Census. Participating in both is required by U.S. law
(Title 13, United States Code, Sections 141, 193, 221, and 223).
In the next few weeks, one of our PRCS field representatives will call you to discuss the survey and to
schedule an appointment to visit your facility. There are two reasons for the PRCS field representative’s visit:
• First, to collect basic information about your facility to update our address records. Our field
representative will verify and update information, such as the facility name, address, and type, as
well as answer any questions you might have about the PRCS.
• Second, to ask for a list of the people who are currently staying at the facility. The field representative
will use this list to select a random sample of residents to take part in the PRCS. The field representative
also may need your assistance in collecting survey data from the sample of residents.
The PRCS collects information about various topics, such as education and employment. Information from
this survey is used by federal, Puerto Rico and municipio governments, as well as by businesses and private
non-profit organizations, to meet the needs of communities in Puerto Rico. Local governments use these data
for budgeting, evaluating programs, and planning for community development projects, such as those for the
elderly, scout programs, libraries, and hospitals. Other organizations use this information to provide services
to the community and to plan or establish new facilities, buildings, and programs.
The enclosed brochure provides answers to frequently asked questions about the PRCS. If you have access

DEL NEGOCIADO DEL CENSO DE LOS EE.UU.
El Negociado del Censo de los EE.UU. está llevando a cabo una encuesta muy importante conocida como la
Encuesta sobre la Comunidad de Puerto Rico (PRCS, por sus siglas en inglés.) Esta encuesta es distinta del
Censo 2010. Este año, representantes de La Encuesta sobre la Comunidad de Puerto Rico y del Censo
2010 se comunicaran con algunos establecimientos. Contestar ambos cuestionarios es requerido por ley.
(Titulo 13, Código de Los Estados Unidos, Secciones 141, 193, 221 y 223.)
El representante de campo lo visitará por dos razones:
• Primero, para recopilar información básica sobre su instalación para poder actualizar nuestros
registros de direcciones. Nuestro representante de campo verificará y actualizará la información, tal
como el nombre, la dirección, y el tipo de establecimiento, al igual que contestará cualquier pregunta
que usted tenga sobre la PRCS.
• Segundo, para solicitar una lista de las personas que actualmente se quedan en el establecimiento. El
representante de campo usará esta lista para seleccionar al azar una muestra de residentes para que
participen en la PRCS. Es posible que el Representante de Campo también necesite su ayuda para
recopilar estos datos de la muestra de residentes.
La PRCS recopila información sobre varios temas, tales como educación y empleos. Tanto el gobierno federal,
el gobierno de Puerto Rico y los gobiernos municipales, como las entidades comerciales y organizaciones
privadas sin fines de lucro utilizan información sobre esta encuesta para satisfacer las necesidades de las
comunidades en Puerto Rico.
Los gobiernos locales utilizan estos datos para preparar sus presupuestos, evaluar programas y planificar
proyectos de desarrollo comunitario, tales como para personas de edad avanzada, programas para niños y
niñas escuchas, bibliotecas y hospitales. Otras organizaciones usan esta información para proveer servicios a
la comunidad y para planificar o establecer nuevas instalaciones, nuevos edificios y programas.
El folleto que se incluye provee respuestas a las preguntas hechas con más frecuencia sobre la PRCS. Si
