Non-substantive Change Justification Statement
Egg, Chicken and Turkey Surveys, OMB 0535-0004
Due to budget cuts in the fiscal year 2011, NASS plans to conduct an experiment on the Chicken and Egg Report (QID 110013) and the December Livestock Survey – Chicken and Eggs (QID 11122009). We plan to suspend data collection of the smaller operations during the December 2010 period for these two surveys. This would reduce the combined sample size by approximately 3,300 operators and approximately 610 hours of respondent burden. The remaining sample will consist of medium and large operations, which account for approximately 95% of the total estimates. Savings for fiscal year 2011 are projected at $30,000.
If the experiment is as successful as we predict, then we will be able to keep the reduced sample sizes for future data collections. No additional changes to respondent burden or methodology are proposed at this time.
