Grants Solicitation for Job Accommodation Network, August 28, 2012 through August 27, 2013

Grant Initiative Abstract: Through this solicitation, the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) Office of Disability Employment Policy will identify an entity to manage and operate its Job Accommodation Network (JAN). The JAN is a national technical assistance center that facilitates the employment and retention of workers with disabilities through a focus on workplace accommodations, the Americans with Disabilities Amendment Act of 2008 and related legislation, and self-employment and entrepreneurship options for people with disabilities. The JAN will provide technical assistance to private and federal sector employers, people with disabilities including disabled veterans, employment service providers, educational institutions and others; deliver training and technical assistance to groups; conduct education and outreach utilizing social media and various collaborations; develop informational materials; maintain a website; conduct research; and collect and analyze data related to the cost and effectiveness of workplace accommodations.


Funding of up to $2.5 million will be awarded through a competitive process for a 12-month period of performance (August 28, 2012 through August 27, 2013), with the possibility of up to four additional option years of funding depending on the availability of funds and satisfactory performance.


Information Collection Burden: The DOL expects approximately 10 applications from an equal number of applicants, and the burden per application will be 20 hours with no capital, start-up, maintenance, or operational costs. Fifty percent of the applications are expected to be filed electronically.

The DOL has increased the March 2012 average hourly earnings in the professional and business services industry of $28.03 by 40 percent (total $39.24) to monetize this burden.
