Travelers over the age of 18 will be randomly selected from those seated in seating areas at concourses AE. We will interview individuals with varying characteristics in the following categories: gender (male/
female), time of the week (weekday/weekend), and travel purpose (business/leisure) (see Appendix A).

Purpose is to identify key concepts about walking that resonate with airport travelers; and, to eventually
develop messages based on those concepts that will motivate travelers to walk, rather than ride the train,
using point-of-decision prompts in the airport. This is a collaborative project with the Atlanta HartsfieldJackson International Airport, whose officials are working with us to ultimately develop signs displaying
these messages at key points where passengers can choose to walk, rather than ride the train, to their gates.

Currently there are only a few small signs at the Atlanta Airport showing travelers that they can walk
rather than ride the train to their gates. In cooperation with the Department of Aviation of the City of
Atlanta, this interview will help identify key concepts from which messaging materials can be developed
to motivate travelers to walk to their gate, instead of riding the train.
