Welcome!

Thanks for agreeing to help the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) with this survey on jobsearch methods. The purpose of this survey is to collect
information about the types of activities people engage in when searching for a job. Your answers will help us improve questions and interviewing
procedures for BLS surveys that collect information about employmentrelated activities.

This survey is voluntary and your answers will be used for research purposes only. We expect that the survey will take no more than 15 minutes to
complete, and you may stop at any time. This survey has been approved by OMB under control number 12200141, with an expiration date of
February 28, 2015. Without a currently valid number BLS would not be able to conduct this survey.

Please note that this survey is being administered by SurveyMonkey.com and resides on a server outside of the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS)
domain. The BLS cannot guarantee the protection of survey responses and advises against the inclusion of personallyidentifiable information
such as your full name, phone number, email address, etc.in any response.

We greatly appreciate your feedback! If you have any questions about the survey, feel free to contact Scott Fricker ([email protected]) for more
information.

11. Thinking about the amount of time you spent using the Internet on your most recent
job search, what percentage of your time (out of 100% of your total Internetbased job
search activities) would you say that you spent looking at job listings and what
percentage was spent filling out applications, contacting employers, sending out resumes,
etc.?
Looking at job listings
Filling out applications, contacting employers, sending out resumes, etc.

12. Sometimes we refer to job search methods as either “active” or “passive.”
Active job search methods are those in which a person could be offered a job or get an
interview with no further action (e.g., submitting an application for a job)
Passive job search methods are those in which a person would have to do something else
before she/he could get a job offer or an interview (e.g., reading the help wanted ads)
We have listed a few jobsearch activities below and are interested in whether people think
these activities should be considered an Active jobsearch activity or a Passive jobsearch
activity. There are no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ answers here, so please just tell us what you think.
If you are unfamiliar with the activity or unsure how to answer, please indicate that.
