This information collection involves
mortgage loan servicers, "mortgagees" that service Federal Housing
Administration "FHA" insured mortgage loans and the home owners,
"mortgagors" who are involved with those activities. The
information collection request for OMB review seeks to combine the
requirements of an existing OMB collection under this
collection.
The increased burden is due to
the combined functions and information collection of currently
approved collections. Also, it is based on the activity involving
mortgage loan servicing of current, delinquent, defaulted, and
foreclosed mortgage loans. Due to conditions in the banking
industry, particularly acquisitions and mergers, the number of
respondents servicing these mortgages has significantly decreased.
As properties are sold or refinanced, and the mortgages retired,
the number of mortgages on which the respondents report has also
decreased but there has been an increase in loan activity which
accounts for the significant increase in the number of
responses.
