SUPPLEMENTARY STATEMENT FOR
VA FORM 21P-8416, MEDICAL EXPENSE REPORT
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is requesting a non-substantive revision to VA Form 21P-8416, Medical Expense Report.
Persons receiving needs-based VA benefits use this form to report family medical, dental, and related transportation expenses, which may be deducted from the income VA counts when determining a Veteran’s or Survivor’s pension or Parents Dependency and Indemnity Compensation benefit amount.
VA is amending this form to (1) clarify the instructions for claiming these expenses, (2) update the mileage rate to the current 41.5 cents, (3) provide a separate section for claiming transportation-related medical expenses, and (4) provide a separate entry blank for claiming Medicare Part D premiums. These changes are non-substantive and add no additional burden because they merely provide dedicated spaces in which applicants and beneficiaries may enter this information, which was requested in the instructions of previous versions of the form.
