As a result of comments received at the proposed rule stage, APHIS decided to change the title of this final rule due to the removal of figs from the rule and information collection. The proposed rule was originally titled “Importation of Figs and Pomegranates from Chile under a Systems Approach” and burden hours totaled 860.
At the final rule stage, APHIS decided not to finalize the proposed provisions related to the importation of figs from Chile. Since the fig portion of the rule was extremely controversial, it was decided the importation of figs from Chile will be addressed in a subsequent action at a later date. The current final rule only addressed the comments received on the proposed importation of pomegranates from Chile. Therefore, the burden hours for this final rule titled “Importation of Pomegranates from Chile under a Systems Approach” dropped to 158 hours due to excluding figs from the rule.
