HMDA Operations As-Is Study
Outreach Topics for HMDA Compliance Experts

This outreach is being conducted in order to build the Bureau’s knowledge base on current HMDA data
operations at financial institutions and within the government. The information that you provide will
help the CFPB better understand an institution’s regulatory compliance activities for its HMDA reporting
responsibilities. We hope to have discussions on the following topics:
1. Map of current HMDA data collection and reporting within institutions: people, process,
technology.
2. Identification of specific operational issues faced by HMDA reporting institutions and federal
agencies.
3. Strengths in the current HMDA operations.
4. Areas for improvement to produce more efficient HMDA operations, including better data
quality.
5. Potential opportunities for long-term cost savings through changes to current HMDA operations
(relative to the cost of making those changes) and net gain.
6. Risks (and quantification of those risks) associated with maintaining the status quo, including
existing processes that may result in higher costs over time if left unchanged.
7. High level cost estimate of HMDA operations to government and industry.
As required by federal law, the Office of Management of Budget has approved the topics of these
conversations under the Paperwork Reduction Act. The OMB control number for this collection is 3170–
0032. The Bureau will treat information received from you consistent with our confidentiality
regulations at 12 C.F.R. Part 1070, et seq.
Your participation in this conversation is voluntary. We anticipate this conversation taking up to 90
minutes of your time.
