OFFICE OF THE DIRECTOR
FROM THE DIRECTOR
U.S. CENSUS BUREAU
The U.S. Census Bureau is currently conducting its 2010 School District Finance Survey. We conduct
this survey in order to make available up-to-date information needed by the United States Congress,
state legislators, finance officers, state and local professional and research organizations, and many
others.
State educational agencies report most of the school finance data requested for this survey. State
financial reports, however, do not contain details regarding school district long-term and short-term
debt.
The reverse side of this letter lists the detailed information about the school district debt data that we
need. This year we are introducing a web application (https://respond.census.gov/f33) for submitting
data. You can find your school district’s username and password for the web application on the reverse
side. Among the benefits of the web application is the ability to view the prior year data your school
district submitted. If you prefer, you can still return this letter in the enclosed addressed envelope.
Please complete these items within two weeks.
We conduct this voluntary survey as authorized by Title 13, Section 182 of the United States Code.
Public records retained from this collection do not require confidentiality. The Census Bureau
appreciates your participation.
Sincerely,
Robert M. Groves
