What is the Parental Mental Health Study?
The Parental Mental Health Study (PMHS)
works to help the National Children’s

fathers. This information will be used to
determine which survey to use in the

ongoing National Children’s Study (NCS).

All answers will be kept confidential!

You will receive a monetary token
of appreciation for your time.

What Will Participants Be Asked to Do? >>>

Study (NCS) find the best way to ask

Expectant parents 18 and older
New parents who gave birth in
the past 4 weeks 18 and older
English Speaking

•

You will be asked to participate in a 10 minute telephone interview that ask s questions regarding your
age, sex, where you live, education level, income
and how your pregnancy is going.
There will also be questions about your health,
and if or how often you may feel sad, angry or
worried and about substance use.
Some participants will receive a second phone
call with an interview that will last approximately
30 minutes. The type of questions will be
similar to the 10 minute telephone interview.

The Parental Mental Health Study is a study under the umbrella of the National Children’s Study (NCS). The NCS is the largest
long-term study of children’s health ever done in the United States, and will include approximately 100,000 children en-

rolled before birth up to age 21.The Study will look at how children’s health is affected by a number of factors including

their family health history and the places where they live, learn, and play.
