Each self-propelled ship of 300 gross tons or greater, except government ships exempted from reporting by regulation V/8-1(c) of SOLAS.

The information is needed to reduce the number of ship collisions with endangered North Atlantic right whales. The collection involves ships’ reporting to the Coast Guard (CG) when entering an area covered by the reporting system.

Where do I find the requirements for this information?

Title 33 CFR Part 169, Subpart B, is available at—http://ecfr.gpoaccess.gov, select TITLE 33—NAVIGATION AND NAVIGABLE WATERS, and follow it to Subpart B of Part 169.

When must information be submitted to the Coast Guard?

The information must be submitted to the CG upon entering an area covered by the reporting system.

How is the information submitted?

The information is sent via INMARSAT C, TELEX, e-mail, VHF, or direct relay. Contact details are published annually in the U.S. Coast Pilot.

What happens when complete information is received?
