Quota

 40 adults (18 years of age and older) for participation in four focus groups
o 30 adults, comprising three focus groups, who have had debt collected
upon in the past two years or who have debt that is actively being
collected upon.
 For each group, recruit 15 for 10 to show
o 10 adults, comprising one focus group, who have not been contacted
by any debt collectors, attorneys, collection firms, or others trying to get
them to pay a debt
 Recruit 15 for 10 to show
 24-30 adults (18 years of age and older) for participation in usability/cognitive
testing
o 3 rounds of 8-10 participants for iterative testing
 For each round, recruit 12 for 8-10 to show

 Recruit for a mix of gender, race, ethnicity, income, frequency of debt
collection experience (even among the three focus groups comprised of
consumers with debt collection experience), and type of debt in collections,
with an emphasis on the last two factors.
Recruitment Plan
 The study will be advertised by:
o Emailing and calling contacts in the facility databases
o Posting fliers in the local communities
 Respondents must first complete the web screener
 Respondents who qualify based on the web screener are then called and
administered the phone screener

 Respondents are sent a confirmation email with directions and a link to the
pre-questionnaire if they qualify based on the phone screener
 Respondents are contacted the day prior to the interview to remind them
about their appointment
 Participants’ information is reconfirmed upon arrival of interview
 Participants are compensated $75 for the session.
