This letter is to inform you that your child has been selected to participate in the
American Time Use Survey (ATUS).1 Conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau, the ATUS
is a brief, one-time-only voluntary telephone interview that gathers information about how
Americans spend their time. The survey includes people ages 15 years and older, and
the answers your child provides will represent those of many teenagers. For this reason,
your child’s participation in the survey is very important.
The enclosed package provides you and your child with information about the survey
and the types of questions we will ask in the interview. All responses are guaranteed to
be confidential and will not be linked with your child’s name or any other identifying

para participar en la Encuesta sobre el Uso del Tiempo en los Estados Unidos (ATUS,
por sus siglas en inglés).1 ATUS es una breve encuesta telefónica voluntaria llevada a
cabo por la Oficina del Censo de los EE.UU. en la que cada participante sólo responde
una vez y que obtiene información sobre cómo pasa el tiempo la población de los
Estados Unidos. La encuesta incluye a personas de 15 años o más, y las respuesta que
su hijo(a) proporcione en la encuesta representarán a las de muchos adolescentes. Por
ese motivo, la participación de su hijo(a) es muy importante.
El material que le estamos enviando le dará a usted y a su hijo(a) información sobre la
