DCIO Assumption: a total of 97,782 ft³ of records retained by the total of 1,730 entities.¹

NOTE: All estimated annual off-site storage costs for respondents are highlighted in yellow.

To determine facility storage costs:

• Calculate the quantity of units needed: 6 ft³/shelf * 6 shelves/unit (36 ft³/unit  48,891ft³ ÷ 36 ft³/unit = 1358 units²)

• Cost per cubic foot of storing: $5.20

• Calculate the cost of records associated 50% of respondent universe using “paper” storage: $5.20 * 48,891 ft³ of records = $254,233

• Cost of floor space at the facility: $3.00/ft²

• Calculate the cost for 1358 units to occupy 8.75 ft² each of floor area: 1358units * 8.75 ft²/ unit * $3/ft² = $35,647

• Sum the costs of record storage shelving and storage area occupied by shelves: [$254,233 + $35,647= $289,880]

• Calculate the cost of archive boxes for record storage (assuming $5.30/archive box and each may contain 10 ft³ of storage volume) 48,891ft³/10 ft³ = 4,889.1 archive boxes * $5.30/archive box = $25,912

TOTAL STORAGE COSTS: $289,880 + $25,912 = $315,792
