FERC/OED/DCIO Staff Notes for FERC-915, as of 8/10/2012

Annotated the Cisco-Eagle web pages (at http://www.cisco-eagle.com/)

DCIO Assumption: a total of 97,782 ft3 of records retained by the total of 1,730 entities.1

NOTE: All estimated annual off-site storage costs for respondents are highlighted in yellow.

To determine facility storage costs:

  • Calculate the quantity of units needed: 6 ft3/shelf * 6 shelves/unit (36 ft3/unit 48,891ft3 ÷ 36 ft3/unit = 1358 units2)

  • Cost per cubic foot of storing: $5.20

  • Calculate the cost of records associated 50% of respondent universe using “paper” storage: $5.20 * 48,891 ft3 of records = $254,233

  • Cost of floor space at the facility: $3.00/ft2

  • Calculate the cost for 1358 units to occupy 8.75 ft2 each of floor area: 1358units * 8.75 ft2/ unit * $3/ft2 = $35,647

  • Sum the costs of record storage shelving and storage area occupied by shelves: [$254,233 + $35,647= $289,880]

  • Calculate the cost of archive boxes for record storage (assuming $5.30/archive box and each may contain 10 ft3 of storage volume) 48,891ft3/10 ft3 = 4,889.1 archive boxes * $5.30/archive box = $25,912

TOTAL STORAGE COSTS: $289,880 + $25,912 = $315,792

1 The Commission bases this volumetric assumption upon expert analysis of current industry recordkeeping storage usage.

2 48,891 ft3 = 97,782 ft3. Figure is consistent with the assumption that 50% of respondents electronically store records while the remaining 50% utilized “paper” (i.e. conventional) storage methods.
