SUBJECT: Request for Approval to Add Grant to OMB Docket #0584-0512

The Uniform Grant Application for Non-Entitlement Discretionary Grants, OMB
Number 0584-0512 allows the Food and Nutrition Service to add programs to the list of
approved programs that use this generic clearance process periodically, provided that
approval is obtained in advance.
The Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) is requesting OMB approval to add the grant
information collection: Food Distribution Program Nutrition Education (FDPNE)
Grant for the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR) to the list of
approved grants. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), authorized
by the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008, authorizes funds to provide grants on a
competitive basis to Indian Tribal Organizations and State Agencies that administer
FDPIR for the purpose of providing nutrition education services to FDPIR participants
and FDPIR-eligible participants. To provide nutrition education, $1 million was
appropriated to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to provide grants
related to USDA’s Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations. FNS is charged
with implementing this competitive grants program and intends to solicit applications
from Indian Tribal Organizations for nutrition education grants. We are requesting to
use hours of the currently approved hours for the Request for Applications to operate
these grants.
