What

  Study?	
  
The	
  study,	
  also	
  called	
  the	
  Family-­‐Provider	
  Relationship	
  Quality	
  Study	
  (FPRQ),	
  is	
  about	
  how	
  families	
  and	
  
their	
  children’s	
  early	
  education	
  teachers	
  and	
  child	
  care	
  providers	
  work	
  together	
  to	
  teach	
  and	
  care	
  for	
  
children	
  from	
  birth	
  to	
  5	
  years.	
  A	
  survey	
  is	
  being	
  developed	
  to	
  look	
  at	
  this	
  relationship	
  from	
  parents’	
  and	
  
teachers’/child	
  care	
  providers’	
  points	
  of	
  view.	
  The	
  results	
  will	
  help	
  educators,	
  child	
  care	
  providers,	
  and	
  
policymakers	
  improve	
  children’s	
  care	
  and	
  education.

Who	
  conducts	
  the	
  Family	
  and	
  Early	
  Care	
  and	
  Education	
  Provider	
  Relationship	
  Study?	
  
The	
  Office	
  of	
  Head	
  Start	
  (OHS)	
  and	
  the	
  Office	
  of	
  Planning,	
  Research,	
  and	
  Evaluation	
  (OPRE)	
  are	
  
sponsoring	
  this	
  study.	
  Both	
  OHS	
  and	
  OPRE	
  are	
  part	
  of	
  the	
  Administration	
  for	
  Children	
  and	
  Families	
  (ACF)	
  
in	
  the	
  U.S.	
  Department	
  of	
  Health	
  and	
  Human	
  Services	
  (HHS).	
  Westat	
  and	
  Child	
  Trends,	
  two	
  research	
  
firms	
  in	
  the	
  Washington,	
  DC	
  area,	
  are	
  conducting	
  the	
  study.	
  Westat	
  is	
  collecting	
  the	
  data.	
  
	
  
What	
  will

  asked?	
  
You	
  will	
  be	
  asked	
  about	
  your	
  experiences	
  teaching	
  and	
  caring	
  for	
  children	
  from	
  birth	
  to	
  5	
  years.	
  Some	
  
questions	
  you	
  will	
  be	
  asked	
  are	
  as	
  follows:	
  How	
  often	
  do	
  you	
  talk	
  with	
  parents	
  about	
  their	
  children’s	
  
abilities?	
  How	
  often	
  are	
  you	
  able	
  to	
  help	
  children	
  settle	
  in	
  when	
  they	
  are	
  dropped	
  off?	
  If	
  families	
  have	
  a	
  
question	
  or	
  a	
  problem	
  comes	
  up	
  during	
  the	
  day,	
  how	
  easy	
  or	
  difficult	
  is	
  it	
  for	
  them	
  to	
  reach	
  you?	
  
	
  
We	
  will	
  also	
  be	
  asking	
  parents	
  to	
  fill	
  out	
  a	
  survey.	
  We	
  will	
  ask	
  you	
  to	
  help	
  us	
  by	
  displaying	
  study	
  
brochures	
  and	
  flyers	
  around	
  your	
  classroom	
  or	
  care	
  setting.	
  
	
  
How	
  long	
  will	
  the	
  survey	
  take	
  to	
  complete?	
  
The	
  survey	
  will	
  take	
  about	
  10	
  minutes	
  to	
  fill	
  out.	
  To	
  thank	
  you	
  for	
  your	
  time,	
  we	
  will	
  send	
  you	
  a	
  check	
  
for	
  $25	
  after	
  we	
  receive	
  your	
  completed	
  survey.	
  You	
  will	
  be	
  given	
  a	
  prepaid	
  and	
  pre-­‐addressed

Public reporting burden for this collection of information is estimated to average 10 minutes per response, including the time for reviewing instructions, gathering and maintaining the data needed, and reviewing
