Every Other Year Email Notification for NLSY97 respondents

To: All NLSY97 respondents for whom we have an e-mail address (that are not blocked or deceased)

From: [email protected]

Subject: See you in 2013!

Body: Dear [Respondent First Name],

The NLSY97 will now be interviewing you every other year.  Your next interview will be in the Fall of 2013. While we may email, post, or call you with updates, we will switch to interviewing you every two years to see how you are doing. This change is being made for a few reasons:

We want to lessen the burden on YOU. We know you lead busy lives, and we thank you for taking time to speak with us. Interviewing you every two years will reduce the amount of time you need to spend providing us your valuable information.

This will save the Federal government $$. The NLSY97 is sponsored by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, a part of the U.S. Department of Labor that measures labor market activity, working conditions, and changes in the economy. Interviewing you every two years will reduce the cost to the Federal government and still provide valuable information on these issues!

We will still collect quality information that will inform policy and research. A switch to interviewing you every two years will not reduce the importance of the information you provide. You will still have the opportunity to participate in this survey and act as a voice for almost 2,000 other Americans who are depending on your participation.

How this affects you

Even though we will not be interviewing you until 2013, we will check in with you in to keep you informed about the survey and make sure that we have information about how best to contact you in the future.  That will make it easier for us to reach each other in 2013 and reduce the cost to the government.

If you have any questions about the switch to interviewing every two years, or how this will impact you, please feel free to contact us through any of the following ways:

And you can always keep us up to date if you have recently moved or plan to move in the next year as well.

Your dedication to the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth 1997 has helped create a study that is widely respected and used by policymakers, researchers, and many others from around the United States and the world. We couldn’t do it without you! See you in the Fall of 2013!

Sincerely,

Mark Ross
