Non-Substantive Change Request to OMB Approved Information Collection 1028-0062

The purpose of this document is to request a non-substantive change to an active OMB-approved information collection, 1028-0062, Industrial Minerals Surveys that expires on 11/30/2015.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) requests modification of one form (out of 40) to include an additional question regarding whether or not tabulations may be published that could indirectly disclose reported data. The specific question is “May tabulations be published which could indirectly reveal the data reported above?” Respondents are requested to check box 1 for yes or box 2 for no. Respondents who do not answer the question will be treated as if they answered no and their data will continue to be fully protected from disclosure to unauthorized individuals and entities.

It was the USGS’s National Minerals Information Center’s (NMIC) original intent for the disclosure question to appear on all canvass forms; however it was inadvertently not included on nine of the forms when the information collection was renewed in November 2012.

Including this disclosure question on all of the canvass forms will allow NMIC to publish data that would otherwise need to be concealed.

The disclosure question will be added to the following canvas form:

  • 9-4002-A BYPRODUCT SULFURIC ACID
