Introduction

The RAND Corporation is conducting a study for the Centers for Disease Control on the costs and cost savings of motor vehicle injury prevention. As part of this study, we are estimating the costs of implementing several different policies and programs designed to prevent such injuries. As the email regarding the request for an interview indicated, much of the cost information we need can be gathered from reviews of the literature; however, we are finding gaps in literature that we hope to fill through interviews.

We will not attribute any specific response to you personally. You will only be identified in the final report as someone that we spoke with in the course of the study. The interview should 60 minutes.

      1. How long is the DWI/DUI typical parole? What are the costs associated with managing parolees?

      2. How much time does the parolee spend interacting with parole officers?

      3. What other time commitments do parolees have other than meetings with parole officers?

      4. Are parolees typically repeat offenders or a mix of first and repeat offenders?

      5. Currently: we have an average cost of a parole from Washington State ($1861 total), Missouri ($1354 total), and Vera.org (19.69/day). Do these seem reasonable?

      6. Do you know estimates of costs to the state of dealing with DUI/DWI parole per parolee? What types of cost are you including in that estimate ( for instance labor, transportation, program management)

      7. Will drunk-driving related parole costs vary based on Intervention type, for instance alcohol interlocks, limits on diversion and plea agreements, lower BAC limits for repeat offenders?

      8. What are the fees (costs) associated with parole to parolee, if any?
