NHANES Urine Collection Feasibility Study (3-5 year olds)

Eligibility: All NHANES participants 3-5 years old at multiple locations who agree to participate in the NHANES exam and who will be coming to mobile examination center (MEC) to complete other previously OMB-approved survey components. The maximum number of respondents would be 125.

Informed Consent: Written informed consent will be obtained as part of the regular National Health

and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) consent process in the Mobile Examination Center

(MEC) exam.

Exclusion Criteria: There are no exclusion criteria for this study.

Specimen Collection: The spot urine collection in 3-5 year olds will be done in the NHANES MEC during participants’ regularly scheduled NHANES visits. These 3-5 year old will be helped by an accompanying adult in the MEC restrooms.

Report of Findings: The only finding reported to the participant is total urinary arsenic. Other environmental chemicals tested in the urine are not considered reportable and are just being tested to determine if the collection method works, if the response rate is sufficient in this age group, and that sufficient sample amounts can be obtained from these participants.
