I have been in the trucking business for over 27 years both
as a company driver and fleet owner. I have seen many
changes take place in this industry over these many years
and a lot of good and bad both. The EOBR is in my opinion
the worst idea only second to the most current HOS rule
change. As trucks have become safer and safer the
regulations have made the industry become more
dangerous thus being counter productive. The EOBR will
even further force the drivers to drive tired. This will make
drivers feel pressure to keep driving even when they feel
they need a nap simply because they are always afraid of
running against their 14 hour clock and being stuck out of
hours. As well I feel this will make it easy for a company to
harass a driver by forcing them to drive only by having the
information of what hours the driver has available. There is
so much more that influences how much a driver can do
such as how the driver himself is feeling at the time. If a
person has never performed or been involved in all the
duties of trucking there is no way they could have any idea
on any of this. I would openly invite any individual to spend
a week with a driver on the road. This is truly the only way
of knowing anything and the only way of making ANY kind
of educated decision or rules. How can someone dictate
and rule make on something they know nothing about ? As
anyone can look up by my companies CSA scores we run
a safe and compliant operation without the expense and
