There is no proof that companies that use elogs have a
better safety rating. Elogs will only reduce the productivity
and income of honest, legal drivers. It will also create a
tremendous financial burden on trucking companies, large
and small; particularly very small companies.
Our experience was that we had to ask for permission for
personal drive time, even though we did not have a load
dispatched, just to go to a truck stop so we could go to the
bathroom. We were also scolded by the company for
moving a few feet within a parking lot to the loading dock.
When we were crawling in traffic, the elog would put us off
duty, and we would have to change it. We spent a lot of
time correcting our duty status when the company had
changed it. We do it legal.
We frequently had our sleep disturbed by msgs; ie fleet
safety msg in the middle of the night.
In your gathering of information, please talk to more drivers
than companies. Afterall, us drivers are the ones having to
deal with the unneccessary hassle.
