We don't need electronic logs in our trucks. It is an
unnecessary expense at a time when the economy is still
limping along. I have a good friend who is on electronic
logs for the first time in his 20 plus years in the industry. He
is ALWAYS pushing the envelope in order make a living.
He drives when tired due to having the electronic log in his
truck. His company will usually set loads where he barely
has enough time to get his load delivered. It is extremely
stressful for him. I have spoken to others who have had
similar experiences.
There is no good reason to force an entire industry to install
electronic logs in our trucks to satisfy the desires of a
handful of anti trucking advocates. I can buy a year of
paper logs for less than the monthly charge to have an
electronic log in one of my trucks.
Forcing drivers and carriers to install electronic logs in
trucks make our roads less safe. Drivers push longer than
they should in order to comply with the electronic nanny.
Many of our better and more experienced drivers are
leaving this industry due to all the excessive regulations.
Many are leaving due to the forced installation of electronic
logs. This legislation would never have passed had it not
been inserted in the highway bill at the last minute. It had to
be hidden in order to be passed. It could not pass on it's
own. There must be a reason why so many in this industry
don't want the electronic logs. Common sense would tell us

that this is a bad piece of legislation which should never be
implemented. For many drivers it is like having a dot officer
sitting in the passenger seat constantly monitoring their
every move.
One attraction of this industry has been the freedom that it
affords. That is becoming less and less with this type of
legislation. It is also forcing carriers to fill seats with drivers
that they might not otherwise have considered. Lets use
common sense and get rid of this unnecessary and useless
legislation.
