Request for Technical, Non-Substantive Changes to SF 86 Consent Form

OPM is requesting modifications to the SF 86 Authorization for Release of Information for the following purposes:

  • To make it clear to individuals signing the consent form that they are authorizing the collection of publicly available social media information during their background investigation, reinvestigation or ongoing evaluation (i.e. continuous evaluation)

  • To further provide a definition of publicly available social media information, for the purposes of the collection, consistent with Security Executive Agent Directive 5 issued by the Director of National Intelligence

  • To clarify that agencies that are authorized, in accordance with 5 U.S.C. 9101, to request criminal history information, include the Department of Homeland Security and the Office of Director National Intelligence.
