Dear Dr. Blyler:
This is to inform you that New England Institutional Review Board (NEIRB) has reviewed the claim of
exemption for the above-captioned project. NEIRB has determined that this research activity, as conducted at
the above location, is exempt from NEIRB review, under the following category:
Research and demonstration projects that are conducted by or subject to the approval of Federal
Department or Agency heads, and which are designed to study or evaluate public benefits or services or
otherwise examine:
(i) Public benefit or service programs; (ii) procedures for obtaining benefits or services under those
programs; (iii) possible changes in or alternatives to those programs or procedures; or (iv) possible
changes in methods or levels of payment for benefits or services under those programs.
Amendments and or changes to the research must be submitted to NEIRB for review, as changes may affect the
exempt status.
