FROM THE ASSISTANT DIRECTOR,
ECONOMIC PROGRAMS
U.S. CENSUS BUREAU
In March, you should have received instructions for completing the 2013 Information and
Communication Technology Survey (ICTS) online. If you recently submitted your response,
we thank you and ask that you disregard this notice.
In an effort to conduct the ICTS in a cost-effective manner, we have developed an online
reporting system for completing the survey that we are confident, you will find easy to use.

We recognize the burden involved in completing this survey, but the Census Bureau depends on
your input to ensure the accuracy of our data. The ICTS data are a key source of information
about our country’s economic performance. Data on business investment in information and
communication technology that falls below a company’s capitalization threshold help economists
to assess prospects for future productivity and economic growth. In addition, the data are an
improved source of information for official estimates of the investment component of Gross
Domestic Product, and U.S. capital stock and capital flows.
This report is MANDATORY. Title 13, United States Code, Sections 131 and 182, authorizes the
Census Bureau to conduct this survey. Section 224 and 225, require your response. Section 9
guarantees your response is confidential and will only be used for statistical purposes. You
may use reasonable estimates if book figures are not readily available.
THANK YOU in advance for ensuring that the results of the 2013 Information and
Communication Technology Survey are comprehensive, timely, and reliable.
Sincerely,
