The Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS)
seeks clearance to implement the 2014 Census of Adult Probation
Supervising Agencies (CAPSA). CAPSA is a special project to develop
a comprehensive listing of all independent federal, state, and
local adult probation supervising agencies in the United States and
private companies that directly supervise adult probationers. CAPSA
will also gather information to describe the various organizational
structures and nature of probation both across and within
jurisdictions. A census of probation agencies was last conducted by
BJS in 1991, but since then, the organization and nature of
probation has changed in many significant ways. BJS plans to field
CAPSA in mid-June 2014 and data collection is expected to last
about seven months.
