RUS electric program engineers consulted industry experts and reevaluated the number of wood pole lots inspected for RUS borrowers. The agency determined that a reduction in burden hours (from 400,400 to 20,332) was necessary due to the reduction in the use of wood poles utilized by RUS electric borrowers. The use of alternative materials, including steel, concrete, fiberglass and fiberglass composites have been developed which have a longer life span than poles from wood products, do not requirement chemical treatment and retreatment and the alternative material poles are being utilized by RUS electric program borrowers.
