The Anti-Car Theft Act of 1992 requires all passenger cars, multipurpose vehicles and light duty trucks w/interchangeable major parts to be labeled or affixed with a vehicle identification number (49 CFR Part 541). Manufacturers of light-duty trucks must identify new model introductions that are likely to be high-theft lines as defined in the Anti-Car Theft Act of 1992 (49 CFR Part 542).

This is a revision of a previously approved information collection request. This clearance request is a program change due to an estimated total annual increase of 267,041 burden hours and an estimated total annual cost burden increase of $82 million for the two Parts. Increase is due to the addition of Part 541 and Part 542 (which were not a part of the previous submission).
