This ICR seeks approval of the
information requirements in the Proposed rule for Effluent
Limitation Guidelines for the Dental Category. EPA is proposing
standards under the Clean Water Act for discharges of pollutants
into publicly owned treatment works (POTWs) from certain dental
practices that involve the discharge of amalgam. The proposed rule
would require affected dentists to control mercury discharges based
on amalgam separators and best management practices. EPA is also
proposing to amend selected parts of the General Pretreatment
Regulations to streamline oversight requirements for the dental
sector. Dentists will be required to provide certain reports and
certifications. the form of submission will be determined by the
Control Authority.
