I am writing to ask you for your help in understanding how residents of Oregon feel about the
protection of salmon and steelhead fish populations in the Willamette basin. In the next few
days you will receive a request to participate in this project by answering questions about your
thoughts and opinions on protecting salmon and steelhead fish populations in the Willamette
basin. Even if you are not familiar with salmon and steelhead populations in the Willamette
basin, by taking a few minutes to share your thoughts and opinions on this topic, you will be
helping us out a great deal.
We would like to do everything we can to make it easy and enjoyable for your to participate
in this study. I am writing in advance because many people like to know ahead of time that
they will be asked to fill out a survey. This research can only be successful with the generous
help of people like you.
The survey should take about 20 – 30 minutes to complete. We cannot send the survey to
everyone, so your answers will represent the opinions of other Oregon residents who are similar
to you and your household. I hope that you can find this amount of time to help with our
project. Most of all, I hope that you enjoy the survey and the opportunity to voice your
thoughts and opinions on this important subject.
Best wishes,

Dr. Michael Papenfus
