A professional recruiting firm will screen 144/recruit 36 adult female consumers (at least 18 of whom are
mothers) who practice/live in states with high rates of antibiotic prescribing.

CDC requests OMB approval to collect information related to the development of the Antibiotic Use
health communications campaign. Information collected will inform revisions to draft campaign materials
(developed based on R1 formative research (OMB Control No. 0920-1154)) and help ensure that the
national campaign meets the needs of intended target audiences.

Each year in the U.S., at least 2 million people become infected with antibiotic-resistant bacteria and
23,000 of these individuals die as a result of their infections. At least 30% of antibiotics prescribed are
unnecessary and/or inappropriate. CDC has an urgent need to rebrand its Get Smart About Antibiotics
campaign before the November, 2017 Antibiotics Week to ensure that HCPs and consumers understand
problems associated with poor antibiotic prescribing/use and know how to improve their own practices.
