What is this collection about?

The Cruise Vessel Security and Safety Act of 2010 (CVSSA) was passed by Congress to address serious incidents, including sexual assault and the disappearance of passengers at sea, that have occurred on cruise vessel voyages. CVSSA requirements include video surveillance, incident recordkeeping and company procedures about crewmember access to passenger staterooms.

When must information be submitted to the Coast Guard?

The CVSSA information is not submitted to the Coast Guard (CG). This information is maintained on the vessel and made available upon request to the CG.

How is the information submitted?

The CVSSA information is not submitted to the CG, rather it is maintained onboard the vessel.

What happens when complete information is received?

The CVSSA information will be verified during normal CG inspections. No specific documentation will be issued by the CG.

The Coast Guard estimates that the average burden for this report varies per information collection—from 30 minutes to initialize a video surveillance system; 1 hour to record an incident report; and up to 20 hours for the procedures establishing guidelines and restrictions on crewmember access to passenger staterooms.
