A Message from the Director, U.S. Census Bureau
The U.S. Census Bureau has selected your business to participate in the 2014 Annual Capital
Expenditures Survey (ACES). In an effort to conduct the survey in a cost-effective manner, we
have developed an electronic reporting system for completing the survey that we are confident you
will find easy to use. To report online, please use the following information:

This report is MANDATORY. Title 13, United States Code, Sections 131 and 182, authorizes the
Census Bureau to conduct this survey. Sections 224 and 225, require your participation. Section 9
of Title 13 guarantees that your response is confidential. Your information is only used to
develop summary statistics that do not reveal the individual activities of your company. Applicable
provisions of the law are provided at the website listed above. You may use reasonable estimates if
book figures are not readily available.
The ACES collects capitalized spending for new and used structures and equipment. Summary data
from this survey are an important source of information regarding U.S. economic performance.
Business investment in structures and equipment is a key component of the official estimate of the
Gross Domestic Product. The ACES data also help U.S. businesses identify market opportunities,
develop new products, and conduct strategic planning.
If you need assistance completing the survey, visit us online at https://econhelp.census.gov/aces. If
you need further assistance, please call us at 1-800-528-3049 weekdays between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.,
Eastern Time.
Thank you in advance for ensuring that the results of the 2014 Annual Capital Expenditures Survey
(ACES) are comprehensive, timely, and reliable.
Sincerely,

John H. Thompson
Director
