2016 Screener Detailed Interview Questions

Questions are programmed into the survey instrument for the computer-assisted interviews. Differences between the 2011 and 2016 surveys are noted according to the legend below.

Note to Reviewers: We did not identify each point n the scale for questions; e.g., On a scale of 1 to 5, where 1 is "Very Unlikely" and 5 is "Very Likely," how likely is it that YOU_NAME will do any hunting during 2016? This establishes the ordinal direction of the scale so that the respondent is not confused as to what was more or less likely.

We received comments from both interviewers that respondents that identifying each point is confusing. Reading the points makes the question much too wordy as the question would read:

On a scale of 1 to 5, where 1 is "Very Unlikely," 2 is "Somewhat Unlikely," 3 is "Neither Likely Nor Unlikely," 4 is "Somewhat Likely," and 5 is "Very Likely," how likely is it that YOU_NAME will do any hunting during 2016?

Cognitive testing found that identifying only the beginning and ending points was much less confusing to respondents.
