The NPRM associated with this new
information collection request would establish a new FTA program
entitled "National Transit Asset Management (TAM) System" to
monitor and manage public transportation capital assets to achieve
and maintain a state of good repair, improve safety, and increase
reliability and performance. The proposed rule requires transit
providers to create a transit asset management plan and sets
minimum Federal requirements to improve the condition of the
Nation's transit capital assets. Collecting this data establishes a
strategic and performance-based process for operating, maintaining,
and replacing public transportation capital assets throughout the
life cycle of those assets. This data will allow FTA and funding
recipients the ability to justify and prioritize the federal
investment in the Nation's transit systems.
