Q2 Help Message:
You should select the sector from the drop down menu that best describes your project. The
sector categories are derived from the NAICS high level categorizations. NAICS provides a
standardized approach for categorizing different types of businesses.
If you need additional detail to determine which category is most appropriate for your business,
please follow the NAICS (http://www.naics.com/search.htm) link. From this page on the NAICS
site, you can obtain more detail for each of the categories by using the drill down menu. You
will not lose your EDN questionnaire display if you visit the NAICS site. Note that there is no
direct link or relationship between the EDN site and the NAICS site. Thus, you will have to
independently select the most appropriate high level sector for your project from the drop
down menu, regardless of your visit to the NAICS website.
Q3 Help Message:
OPIC will only support financially viable projects with commercially proven technology,
products and / or processes. We recommend you consult with an EDN Originator for further
information.
Q4 Help Message:
For an OPIC direct loan, OPIC requires significant U.S. participation in the projects it supports.
U.S. significant participation in a project can be achieved with either an equity or a long-term
debt investment. OPIC can provide financing for overseas investments that are wholly owned
by U.S. companies or, at a minimum, have an ownership interest of at least 25 percent. If your
project does not meet this US investment requirement, you may still be able to find financing
through one of the Network Lenders
Q5 Help Message:
OPIC will require the project sponsors show a healthy track record, and have significant
experience in and knowledge of the host country, market and environment
Q6 Help Message:
OPIC provides medium- to long-term funding through direct loans and loan guaranties to
eligible investment projects in developing countries and emerging markets. OPIC loan terms
typically range from three to fifteen years, with market rates of interest, and customary
financing costs and fees borne by the borrower. OPIC does not make direct equity investments
in projects. OPIC political risk insurance is available to U.S. investors, contractors, exporters and
financial institutions involved in international transactions. Network Lenders are also a
potential source of debt funding. We recommend consulting an EDN Originator to determine
the appropriate type of funding for your project.
Q7 Help Message:
OPIC will require you to contact private banks and insurers to gauge their willingness to
participate in your project. If you have done so, and if private sector banks and/or insurers have
expressed their unwillingness to work with you, then OPIC may be able to support your project.
Network Lenders typically do not have this requirement.
