Abstract: Section 987 of the Internal Revenue Code provides rules for translating items of income and expense earned in a foreign currency. It also provides rules for determining and translating currency gain or loss for taxpayers with branch operations that are qualified business units and that keep books and records and conduct business in a currency other than the dollar.
