ACP & AANP Screening Guidelines

The ACP conducts a periodic census of its members and keeps a database of demographic information which they use to screen for eligible participants. The screening criteria provided below are based on the information available from the ACP member database.


AANP recruits participants through their Conference Registrant Newsletters. Screening criteria are either incorporated in recruitment messaging or as a formal screener questionnaire linked in the focus group invitation.


Both AANP and ACP participants will be screened based on the following criteria:


  1. Gender

[QUOTA: recruit representative mix. For groups 2 & 4 over-recruit female participants since a higher proportion prescribe OCPs]


  1. Age [QUOTA: 35-65 years]


  1. US vs International Medical Graduate [QUOTA: recruit a representative mix.]


  1. Member class

  • Member

  • Fellow

  • Master of the College

[QUOTA: recruit Members and Fellows. Masters do not see patients.]


  1. Primary specialty.

[QUOTA: recruit Internal Medicine for broadest prescribing base.]


  1. Employer size

[QUOTA: over-recruit community practice as large institutions typically have workflows and other factors influencing prescribing strategies.]


  1. Primary practice site

[QUOTA: recruit clinic practice for participants who prescribe regularly.]


  1. Amount of time in direct patient care

  • <25%

  • 25-49%

  • 50-74%

  • 75%+

[QUOTA: recruit 50-74% and 75% participants.]


  1. Location of patient care (inpatient vs. outpatient) [QUOTA: recruit outpatient.]

  2. Individual or family works in FDA, pharmaceutical company (yes/no) [QUOTA: No.]

You are invited to participate in a focus group being conducted by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners at the 2016 AANP National Conference in [site], about generic drug prescribing among NPs. 


You are invited to participate in this focus group if you are:


  • Between 35-65 years of age

  • Clinically practicing NP primarily in an office- or community-based setting

  • Prescribing oral contraceptives and anti-depressants

  • Outpatient/primary-care based

  • Unaffiliated with the FDA or pharmaceutical industry (yourself or family)

  • Registered for the conference. 


We will be holding the focus group at two different dates and times:
