Use of Force Data Collection

Thank you for participating in this cognitive interview.
Your feedback will help us refine the language and instructions for the new Uniform Crime Reporting
Program’s data collection on law enforcement use of force.
The purpose of this interview is to gain insight into your experiences answering the proposed collection
using realistic scenarios.
Your participation in this interview is voluntary and you may discontinue your participation at any time
without any penalty.
This interview is a requirement of the project. If you choose not to complete the interview or voluntarily
choose to discontinue the interview, you will no longer be responsible for further participation in the
project.
There are no known risks associated with this interview.
The interview will take approximately one hour.
The interview will not be recorded. Notes from your observations will be recorded by myself, Cynthia
Barnett-Ryan, and an assistant moderator, [insert name].
Your name will not be associated with any information you provide and will only be known to the
individuals at the FBI working on the project.
The information obtained through these interviews may be published in reports or presented at
professional meetings, but your identity will be kept strictly confidential.
