Dear «SALUTATION» «LAST_NAME»,
The 2015-2016 Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC)
Scholarship Selection Board has completed its evaluation of your
application. I regret to inform you that you are not among those
selected to receive the NROTC scholarship. The competition for
scholarships this year has been especially keen and the decision
regarding your candidacy was made only after a thorough and impartial
evaluation of your application. That evaluation considered factors
such as your high school class standing, courses taken and grades
received, SAT/ACT scores, references, interview, participation in
extracurricular activities, and demonstrated leadership qualities.
ALTERNATE NAVY ROTC SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY
The Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps College Program is a
non-funded program in which you may enroll at any college or
university with an NROTC unit, participate as a midshipman, and
potentially earn a commission as an Ensign in the United States Navy
or Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps through other
NROTC scholarship opportunities or the Advanced Standing College
Program.
As a midshipman in the NROTC College Program, you may reapply for
the National Scholarship if you have completed less than 30 college
semester credit hours. Additionally, each year scholarships are
awarded for two and three years to outstanding College Programmers on
behalf of Commander, Naval Service Training Command (NSTC). It is not
possible to predict what scholarship selection opportunities will be
available during your freshman and sophomore years. Your selection
opportunities will be based on your academic performance, your
performance within the NROTC unit, and available scholarships.
In order to receive a commission as a naval officer upon
graduation, midshipmen must be either on scholarship or in the
Advanced Standing College Program by the beginning of their junior
year. If you have not been selected for a scholarship by the end of
your sophomore year, you must apply for and be selected for "Advanced
Standing" status.

NROTC unit of your choice for more information. Early communication
with the unit will ensure that all entrance requirements are met and
facilitate your smooth orientation into the NROTC unit.
In addition to NROTC, the Navy has other programs that offer
scholarship opportunities leading to a commission as a naval officer.
These programs include the United States Naval Academy, the Seaman to
Admiral-21 (STA-21) Program, and other enlisted to officer accession
training programs. Please contact your local Navy recruiter who can
provide you with additional information.
