RAND and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are working together to assess the feasibility of various school practices to promote social distancing in the event of an influenza pandemic or other communicable disease outbreak. In today’s interview, I’m going to ask about a number of strategies that increase distance among students at school. I’m hoping to get your view on the feasibility of these strategies, and also the barriers and facilitators to implementing them. The interview should take about 90-120 minutes.

I want to reassure you that your responses to these questions will be held in strict confidence. With your permission, we will record this conversation on a digital recorder so that we can check our notes for accuracy. We won’t share the recordings with anyone outside the research team, and we will destroy the recordings after the project ends. Only summary information from the interview will be included in our final report. We will not identify a specific individual by name or affiliation without his or her permission in the final report. Your participation in this interview is entirely voluntary. You do not have to participate in the interview, and if you participate, you should feel free to skip any questions. We believe the risks to participation are minimal. If you have any questions about this study please contact Dr. Uscher-Pines at 703-413-1100, ext. 5167. If you have questions about your rights as a research participant or need to report a research-related injury or concern, you can contact RAND's Human Subjects Protection Committee toll-free at (866) 697-5620 or by emailing [email protected]. If possible, when you contact the Committee, please reference Study # HHSD2002013M53959B

Do you consent to participate in this interview? [If yes, proceed to next question.]

Do you consent to being recorded? [If yes, the interviewer turns on the recorder at this point.]
