2015 Aquaculture Value Totals $76.2 Million
Hawaii aquaculture sales totaled
$76.2 million in 2015, according to
USDA’s National Agricultural
Statistics Service, down 3 percent
from 2014’s record year. Algae
contributed $33.8 million and
accounted for 44.3 percent of the
sales. The “Other” category
includes the remaining value of
sales, or 55.7 percent of
aquaculture sales. In recent
years, aquaculture sales have
been increasing steadily. In 2015,
the peak number of hired workers
on the payroll was 406, as
reported by the producers.
