EACE-RAND study: Core Competencies for Amputation Rehabilitation

Project Information Sheet

The Army, through the DoD-VA Extremity Trauma and Amputation Center of Excellence, has asked the RAND Arroyo Center to identify the key knowledge, skills, and abilities that healthcare providers must have in order to provide optimal rehabilitation services to amputees. We are interested in understanding your perspective about which knowledge, skills, and abilities are most important for providers to have when providing rehabilitation to amputees. We will also talk to patients and family members to understand their perspectives, and we plan to combine the information from amputees, their family members, and providers to develop a complete picture of what is needed to provide quality amputee rehabilitation.

Your participation in this research study consists of you answering interview questions. Your participation is voluntary. You can skip any question you do not want to answer or stop the interview at any time, and there will be no penalty or consequence from doing so. We anticipate that the interview will take about 60 minutes.

We will audio record this interview so we capture all of your comments. In order to keep your information confidential, we will transcribe the recording into a Word document and will not include any names in the Word document – either yours or other specific people who you mention. At the conclusion of the study, we will destroy the audio recording and there will be no link between your interview and the Word document.

The risks of participating in this interview are minimal. We might use a direct quote from our interview when we write up the results but we will not attribute the quote to any individual. However, it is possible, though not likely, that someone who reads the report may infer who provided a statement or quote. While there is a possibility that DoD personnel responsible for the protection of human subjects may have access to the research records collected during this study in order to ensure the protection of research participants, your information will never be shared with anyone in your chain of command.
