MEMORANDUM FOR: Reviewer of 1220-0141
FROM : Nora Kincaid, BLS Clearance Officer
Division of Management Systems
SUBJECT: Nonsubstantive change for Testing of Sensitive Questions in
BLS Generic package “Cognitive and Psychological Research”
BLS is requesting that the testing of sensitive questions be permitted under the BLS package 1220-0141, Cognitive and Psychological Research.
When the package was last approved, item 11- Justification for Sensitive Questions, of Part A of the Supporting Statement stated that “There are no questions of a sensitive nature.” At times, for testing purposes, it is sometimes necessary to test questions that people may consider sensitive to determine if the questions are of a sensitive nature. BLS therefore requests to change the language for item 11 of the supporting statement to “Most of the questions that are included on BLS questionnaires are not of a sensitive nature. However, it is possible that some potentially sensitive questions may be included in questionnaires that are tested under this clearance. One of the purposes of this testing is to identify such questions, determine sources of sensitivity and alleviate them insofar as possible before the actual survey is administered.” In the next submission for renewal of this package item 11 of Part A will be updated to reflect the above request.
The current expiration date for this package is April 30, 2018.
If you have any questions about this request, please contact Nora Kincaid by telephone at 202-691-6821 or by e-mail at [email protected].
