Revisions to the Information Collection
Change #1: In Question 4, we are removing “in a husband and wife” and entering “as spouses?”
Justification #1: In recognizing same-sex couples, we now use gender-neutral language acknowledging that a question or a statement on a form could refer to two same-sex individuals in a marriage.
Change #2: In Question 5.B, we are removing “husband and wife” and entering “spouses”
Justification #2: In recognizing same-sex couples, we now use gender-neutral language acknowledging that a question or a statement on a form could refer to two same-sex individuals in a marriage.
Change #3: In Question 6, we are revising the question:
From: “Did you have an understanding to your relationship when you began living together?”
To: “Did you and the person you were living with have an understanding about your relationship when you began living together?”
Justification #3: In recognizing same-sex couples, we now use gender-neutral language acknowledging that a question or a statement on a form could refer to two same-sex individuals in a marriage and rewriting the question for grammatical purposes.
Change #4: In Question 7, we are revising the question:
From: “Did you have an understanding as to how long you would live together?”
To: “Did you and the person you were living with have an understanding about how long you would live together?”
Justification #4: In recognizing same-sex couples, we now use gender-neutral language acknowledging that a question or a statement on a form could refer to two same-sex individuals in a marriage and rewriting question for grammatical purposes.

To: “your name before you lived together”
