understand how to better educate groups influencing generic drug use, based on their unique
educational needs (U.S. FDA grant #U01FD005486). We are conducting interviews among a variety of
stakeholder groups. The purpose of these interviews is to ask prescription drug formulary managers,
large purchasers of pharmaceuticals, and policymakers about their thoughts on the quality of the
educational materials developed, satisfaction with the materials, and the impact the educational
materials may have on the prescribing and use of generic drugs.
Please let us know if you would be able to participate in an interview Spring 2018. If so, you may reach

calling Audrey Maisel at (443) 259-5203 to schedule a convenient interview date and time.
We have identified you as a possible participant of the X group, and would welcome your feedback. We
would also appreciate any recommendations you have for additional interviewees among the following
groups:
• Formulary managers (hospitals, PBMs, other)
• Large purchasers of pharmaceuticals (e.g., for hospitals, retail group purchasing)
• Policymakers (local, state, or federal level)
Interviews are conducted via telephone and the estimated time commitment is approximately 45
minutes. Any information collected as part of the interview will be kept secure to the extent
provided by law and will not be shared with anyone outside of the research team. You will receive
$75 as a token of our appreciation for your participation.

reaching out to you on behalf of the FDA-funded grant to understand how to better educate groups
influencing generic drug use, based on their unique educational needs (U.S. FDA grant
#U01FD005486). We are conducting surveys among a variety of stakeholder groups. The purpose of
these surveys is to ask healthcare providers about their thoughts on the quality of the educational
materials developed, satisfaction with the materials, and the impact the educational materials may have
on the prescribing and use of generic drugs.
Surveys are conducted online and the estimated time commitment is approximately 20 minutes. Any
information collected as part of the survey will be kept secure to the extent provided by law and will
not be shared with anyone outside of the research team. You will receive $50 as a token of our
appreciation for your participation.

Appendix A: Recruitment Script for Face-to-Face Surveys – Patients/Caregivers
Face-to-Face Recruitment Script for Patients/Caregivers
This script is intended to be used by pharmacy students or technicians for face-to-face
recruitment of patients and caregivers who are clients of Auburn University’s pharmacy services
clinics. After routine clinical visits are concluded, pharmacy students or technicians will identify
eligible patients/caregivers, explain the purpose of the study to them, and review the written
informed consent.
Hello Mr./Ms. [Name],
Auburn’s school of pharmacy is recruiting patients and caregivers on behalf of an FDA-funded
research study to better educate groups influencing generic drug use, based on their unique
educational needs. The study is being conducted by Dr. Jingjing Qian, Assistant Professor in the
Auburn University Department of Health Outcomes Research and Policy and Dr. Ilene Harris,
Principal Research Scientist at IMPAQ International. You were selected as a possible participant
because you have been identified as a patient or caregiver and are age 19 or older.
This study includes face-to-face surveys conducted at your regular Pharmacy Practice
Experience (PPE) visit setting, with an estimated time commitment of approximately 30
minutes. Any information collected as part of the survey will be kept secure to the extent
provided by law and will not be shared with anyone outside of the research team. You will
receive $25 as a token of our appreciation for your participation.
